HRDC Youth Employment Strategy

The Youth Employment Strategy is the Government of Canada's action plan to boost the employability of young Canadians. It helps young people acquire the knowledge, skills, work experience, and career information to enter the work force. Primarily, there are four initiatives: Youth Internship Canada; Youth Service Canada; Student Summer Job Action and Information.

Department of National Defence

The Department of National Defence manages and directs the Canadian Forces. Canadian Forces is responsible for protecting Canada's interests and values abroad. At home it plays a significant role in combating drug smuggling, protecting Canada's fisheries and assisting civil authorities during natural disasters. There are approximately 130 careers to explore in Canada's Army, Navy, and Airforce. By joining the Canadian Forces, you can learn a specialized occupation with all expenses paid. Programmes like the Regular Officer Training Plan will pay for your university education plus you will graduate as an officer.

BRITISH COLUMBIA INDUSTRY TRAINING AND APPRENTICESHIP COMMISSION (ITAC)

Apprenticeship is a system of training, leading to certification in a designated trade, occupation or craft. ITAC was established as a partnership with business, labour, education and government. The commission is responsible for apprenticeship, entry-level trades training, and other industry training in BC. Its mandate is to promote trades and technical careers among young people. To this end, it expects to double the number of participants in the next five years.

ALBERTA HUMAN RESOURCES AND EMPLOYMENT

The Alberta Human Resources and Employment Department maintains the Alberta Learning Information Service. The department also assists Albertans to enter the workforce by offering labour market information, work-ability assessments, career counseling and employment placement.

The Alberta Learning Information Service offers valuable information and resources to do with career planning, getting the education to follow the chosen career, and information about future employers. There are even employment classifieds from Alberta's major newspapers.

PROVINCE OF BRITISH COLUMBIA

BRITISH COLUMBIA MINISTRY OF ADVANCED EDUCATION, TRAINING AND TECHNOLOGY

The Ministry of Advanced Education, Training and Technology is responsible for providing British Columbians with relevant, accessible public post-secondary education and training aimed at getting them jobs in BC. It provides labour market information, listings of educational institutes in BC, and information on education financial assistance. A major commitment is assisting youth in finding employment. There are twelve separate services alone under the banner of Youth Options BC.

BRITISH COLUMIA MINISTRY OF EDUCATION

The BC Ministry of Education is responsible for the development and implementation of the K to 12 curriculum and the learning resources used within the school system. It also oversees the proper student assessment, evaluation and reporting at the classroom level. A mandate of the ministry is to provide students with relevant career planning tools to prepare them for the working world.

BRITISH COLUMBIA MINISTRY OF WOMEN'S EQUALITY

The mandate of the BC Ministry of Women's Equality is to build a society where women experience equality in all aspects of their lives. Within "Bridging Employment Programmes", one goal is to provide clients with the skills necessary to improve their ability to secure and maintain long-term employment. These programmes are provided through colleges, school districts and community organizations.
